Apple has entered the foldable-phone market with the iPhone Duo, a device that opens into a larger tablet-like display while keeping a compact outer screen for everyday use. The company introduced the phone at its September launch event in Cupertino, presenting it as a new form factor rather than a simple enlargement of its existing iPhone line. The launch gives Apple a major new product category to develop as foldables remain a small but closely watched part of the global smartphone market.
When opened, the iPhone Duo has a7.6-inch inner display; closed, it uses a 5.4-inch outer screen. Apple says the two displays share the same aspect ratio so content can transition more naturally between modes. The device uses a titanium enclosure and a precision hinge, while the inner panel includes a nano-texture finish intended to reduce glare. Apple also highlighted a thinner profile and a design meant to fit into a pocket when folded.
The phone is powered by Apple’sA20 Pro chipand includes a dual-battery architecture, thermal-management system, and a camera setup designed around the foldable format. Apple’s announcement also points to new ways of taking photos, previewing shots, and using the device hands-free. The camera system includes a 48-megapixel main camera and features that use both screens to help subjects frame images or participate in calls.
iPhone Duo pre-orders begin October 16, with availability starting October 23 in the markets Apple listed. ABS-CBN News, citing Agence France-Presse, reported a starting price of $1,999; Philippine pricing and local availability should not be assumed until Apple or an authorized Philippine distributor confirms them. The phone ships with iOS 27 and Apple Intelligence features, giving the launch relevance beyond hardware design.
