The Department of Information and Communications Technology will push for strongerBig Tech accountability at the ASEAN level, according to the Philippine News Agency. DICT Secretary Henry Aguda said the Philippines is seeking clearer regional mechanisms for faster responses and stronger protection against harmful content, scams, fraudulent advertisements, misinformation, and other cross-border digital threats.
The proposal builds on recent engagements with Meta and Roblox and will be raised in upcoming ASEAN meetings in Metro Manila. Aguda said the region’s nearly 700 million people can use collective strength to negotiate more effective cooperation with major platforms. The effort is still a policy push rather than a completed rulebook, so implementation, enforcement, and safeguards for users’ rights will be key issues to watch. Source:Philippine News Agency.
