Globe Telecom said its chief intelligence and trust officer,Anton Bonifacio, will leave the company and the corporate sector effective January 1, 2027. Bonifacio moved into the CITO role in July after previously serving as chief information security officer and chief artificial intelligence officer. Globe said the combined position brought AI, data, cybersecurity, privacy and digital trust under one leadership structure as the telco expanded its technology transformation and growing digital-security responsibilities across its national network in the Philippines.
According to The Philippine Star, Globe credited Bonifacio with helping establish security capabilities for physical and digital infrastructure and with strengthening the company’s ability to anticipate emerging threats. The company also connected his earlier AI role to automation and responsible governance. Globe’s statement framed the transition as a leadership change rather than a withdrawal from cybersecurity, saying security, privacy and digital trust would remain central to its long-term growth and customer protection across its products and services for Filipino customers.
Garrett Silao, Globe’s current chief information security officer, will serve as officer in charge after Bonifacio’s departure. Silao joined Globe in 2008 as an information security engineer, later led its security operations center and developed the company’s internal cybersecurity response. He will report to Globe president and CEO Carl Raymond Cruz while the company manages the transition. The appointment keeps operational security leadership within the existing executive structure while the company evaluates its longer-term leadership plans and priorities during the handover.
The change highlights how telecom cybersecurity now overlaps with AI governance, data protection and customer trust. Networks carry payments, messages, business traffic and increasingly automated services, so security leadership must cover more than incident response alone. Globe’s next phase will test how it maintains that integrated approach during the handover. For customers, the practical measure remains whether security controls, privacy protections and response channels continue working consistently as services evolve and more customer activity moves through connected digital channels daily.
