TheJames Dyson Awardwill announce its 2026 Philippine national winner on September 16, with 42 local inventions competing in the international design contest for young engineers and designers. Three Philippine entries will first be shortlisted by local design and engineering professionals, before one national winner advances to the global stage. The announcement gives Filipino student inventors a timely platform as universities and technology communities look for practical solutions to everyday problems.

The Philippine winner will receive a**£5,000 prize**, equivalent to about P423,820, and will continue to the next round. Dyson engineers will review entries from participating countries and regions before narrowing the field to 20 finalists on October 14. The judging process looks beyond the finished product: development methods, testing, trial and error, design improvements, and the ability to solve a clear user problem also matter.

The global winner and sustainability winner will be announced on November 4. Each will receive**£30,000**, while the global runner-up will receive £5,000. The competition is open to current university students and people who graduated within the past four years in engineering, product design, or industrial design. Eligible degree-level apprentices may also participate, making the program a potential bridge between classroom projects, research, and early-stage commercialization.

Filipino inventors have already demonstrated that the program can lead to products with practical reach. Jeremy De Leon’sMake-roscopewon the Philippine award in 2023 and was developed into a pocket microscope that works with a smartphone or tablet. BusinessWorld reported that the JereMAKE brand has sold more than 10,000 units and reached students in over 70 schools and universities. The 2026 announcement will show which new Philippine ideas are ready for the next stage.
