Rakuten Viber has launched an in-app eSIM service in the Philippines, allowing users to purchase and activate international data plans directly through the messaging app. YugaTech reports that the service uses Rakuten Mobile’s eSIM platform and is designed for travelers who want mobile data abroad without buying or swapping a physical SIM card. Plans cover hundreds of destinations and can be accessed from the More or Calls sections inside Viber.
After selecting a plan, users can complete payment and install the eSIM through a Quick Install link, QR code, or manual setup. Viber says the service uses its spam and fraud-detection systems alongside Stripe anti-fraud tools to help secure transactions. The launch initially targets the Philippines and complements Viber Out, the app’s international-calling service, as Rakuten works to expand Viber into a broader super-app platform. Source:YugaTech.
