Meta is testing a newWhatsApp Scam Alertfeature designed to flag suspicious messages from unknown numbers and unsaved contacts. YugaTech reports that the optional tool uses a lightweight machine-learning model downloaded directly to a user’s phone, looking for patterns such as artificial urgency, financial requests, and trust-building tactics common in scams. If a message raises enough red flags, a warning banner appears inside the chat without notifying the sender.
Meta says the classification happens on the device, so message content and chat history are not sent to its servers and end-to-end encryption is not weakened. The limited beta also uses privacy-preserving analytics, trusted execution environments, and differential privacy to measure aggregate results. The feature can be turned on or off, and broader availability will depend on beta performance. Source:YugaTech.
